Betty’s Bahama Nonna

Betty's tropical drink goes down smoother than its generous measure of rum might suggest. Shake it until icy so the citrus and pineapple stay bright through each cold sip.

Notes

  • Rum: The 151-proof rum makes this a very strong cocktail. Measure it carefully and sip slowly. It can be reduced for a lighter variation.
  • Coconut Rum: Alcohol content varies by brand. A higher-proof coconut rum will make this already-strong drink even stronger.
  • Pineapple Juice: Use chilled 100% pineapple juice. Freshly pressed or canned juice both work; shake or stir the juice before measuring if it has separated.
  • Balance: A small splash of fresh lime juice helps brighten the fruit and balance the sweetness.
  • Fruit Preparation: Wash fresh oranges, limes, and pineapple thoroughly under running water before cutting them for juice or garnish.
  • Make Ahead: Combine the measured rums and juices without ice up to 24 hours ahead. Cover and refrigerate, then shake each serving with ice immediately before serving.
  • Storage: Keep the juices and any pre-mixed cocktail refrigerated. The finished drink is best served immediately over fresh ice.
  • Serving Suggestions: Serve with Tex-Mex Dip, Guacamole, or Clam Dip.
