Apple & Raisin Skillet
Celery is usually a background flavor, but it becomes the crisp-tender star of this warm skillet side. Apple and raisins lend gentle sweetness against the buttery ginger finish.

Ingredients
Warm Celery Sauté
- 1 large celery stalk — thinly sliced
- 3 tablespoons butter
- ⅓ cup vedalia onion — small dice
- 1 red delicious apple — cored, medium dice
- ½ cup raisins
- 1 teaspoon salt (optional) — to taste
- ½ teaspoon ginger — ground
Optional Additions
- walnuts (optional) — chopped
- cinnamon (optional) — ground
- thyme (optional) — chopped
- honey (optional)
Instructions
- Cook the Celery and Onion: Heat butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add celery and onion and sauté about 3 minutes, stirring often, until slightly softened.1 celery stalk, 1/3 cup onion, 3 tbsp butter
- Add the Remaining Ingredients: Stir in diced apple, raisins, salt and ginger. Cook another 3–5 minutes until apples soften lightly, raisins plump, and celery stays crisp-tender.1 apple, ½ cup raisins, 1 tsp salt, ½ tsp ginger
- Serve: Serve warm beside roasted meats, stuffing, or rice dishes.
Notes
- Keep the Celery Crisp: Avoid overcooking so the celery retains a pleasant texture and doesn't become soft or watery.
- Choose Your Apples: Sweet apples create a milder dish, while tart apples add a brighter contrast to the raisins and butter.
- Butter Adds Richness: Butter creates the most traditional flavor, though olive oil offers a lighter alternative.
- Customize for the Season: Chopped walnuts, pecans, cinnamon, or a splash of apple cider vinegar all work naturally with the existing flavors.
- Serve Warm: This dish is best enjoyed shortly after cooking while the apples are tender and the raisins are soft and plump.
- Optional Additions
- walnuts (chopped)
- cinnamon (ground)
- thyme (chopped)
- honey
