El General torta with layers of meat, melted cheese and vegetables in a telera roll

El General

Clear a little room on the table: El General is the kind of towering torta that makes dinner feel like an event. Fire up the griddle, gather a hungry crew, and make a sandwich worth sitting down for.

Butter Club Notes

A torta this generous needs bread that can hold its shape and fillings sliced thin enough to fit into the same bite. Toast the telera lightly, warm the meats in portions, and have the vegetables ready before you start building. Angie supplied the sandwich ingredient list; the quantities, guajillo pork seasoning and cooking method here are a Good Buddy Butter Club adaptation awaiting her exact preparation. This version has not yet been kitchen-tested.
